INTRODUCTION:
This is a quick how to guide on how to start writing as a Sydney dad . I find writing to be therapeutic , I know that I am not the best writer in the world and my grammar sucks (thanks whole language approach to reading) . But there is something about finding a moment siting down on my laptop and belting out a few hundred . So I going to give you a few tips on what to do if you want to start writing
Step 1: Getting Started
Choose your medium . It does not have to be a blog like this , my great grandfather kept a journal that was for his eyes only . Blogs are a awesome way to reach a lot of people but you may not want want that and that is fine
Step 2: Define your audience and work your angle
This is less relevant if you creating a journal for yourself but if you want others to read it find your angle. I created Average awesome dad because I didnt see too many Sydney dads blogging so I found my voice. I have had friends who came up with blogs from the perspective of a Australian NBA fan or others who write about craft beers in New England . You will find that you can write about anything that you are passionate about.
Step 3: Define your writers desk
Some times a writers desk is not actually a desk. Mine is a couch, two sleeping children, a pair of noise canceling headphones and a Beer or coffee depending on the time of day. But the key is finding somewhere you can concentrate and not be too distracted.
Step 4: Get your tools
Even if you are handwriting a journal you will need some tools . If you are blogging you will need a computer a website to publish to a content management system (I could go on but I might save it for another post)
Step 5: Get started
The first entry is the hardest you will critique it to no end. But once you get started you might be hooked and then you can really get on a role. .
