Kids are attracted to similar sports as their parents . Some sports require substantial time investment some require signifnigant financial investment some require both (see equestrian). But the secondary benefits which I would argue are more important around focus, motovation , the ability to take instruction and socialbility are often overlooked. The key to picking a sport for your child is to take something that they have an interest in and encourage (not push) it  Whithout further faffing here are 10 sports for Sydney kids (in no particualar order) 1. Swimming 2. [Football](https://www.averageawesomedad.com/sydney-football-school-enrolement) (some still call it soccer) 3. Nippers (Surf life Saving) 4. Rugby League 5. Rugby Union 6. Rowing 7. Netball 8. Little Atheletics  9. [Equestrian](http://www.dbfarm.com.au/horse-training-rididng-lessons-sydney) 10. Martial Arts There are obviously more sports in Sydney but these are my favourites.
